This had to be, hands-down, one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my entire life.
Jim and I drove down to Cocoa Beach after our day at the Space Center to watch the launch. We followed along with mission control via our crank radio through the countdown.
Earlier in the day, I was able to get a semi-clear shot of the rocket:
It was pretty neat to be able to see it sitting there, on the launch pad, ready to go during the day … and lit up on its way to orbit at 9pm that night.
