1 Year

It’s official.

We survived a full year in Miami.

I was planning on writing a post compiling all the things I hate about this place (heat, mosquitoes, traffic …) – But after riding a few horses and snorkelling with Jim in the Keys this past week, I’m feeling incredibly happy – So instead, here’s a little summary of all our adventures from the past year (New readers: Here’s your chance to catch up!!).

Here we go …

The adventure began when we had to move away from Lambertville, NJ (a town Jim and I really grew to love, it hurt to leave) to North Miami, FL because I was accepted to an environmental chemistry PhD program here.  The transition was tumultuous and my first semester was pretty rough, but we got through and were able to spend the holidays at home with our families.  During the spring, we planted herbs and I graded papers.  My shop experienced a few major updates and I tried a new style of running (which I love, by the way).  I spent my spring break in the lab so I could take time to be with my sister during hers – We introduced her to two of our favorite Miami things: food trucks and alligators.  I finished my first year and my sister her last.  We battled tropical thunderstorms and co-existed with giant spiders.  We hopped in my trusty Toyota and explored destinations north, west and as south as you can get.

I don’t think Florida will ever feel like home, but I’m happy to know that we are definitely doing our best to make the most of our time here.

  1. Hey there! I found your blog from Etsy. Congrats on surviving your first year! I live about an hour away from Lambertville…a beautiful town :) I’m glad you have to follow your dreams and your schooling even through the rough patches. Just think, once you graduate, sky’s the limit….good luck!

  2. Aww, I am from Miami so it always feels like home to me :) But I have been transplanted, dang love and education! Glad that you are making the best of it all and hopefully you are uncovering new and exciting things about one of my favorite places.
