My dad and stepmom flew in to visit this weekend – Saturday we drove up to Fort Lauderdale and puttered around the beach spying on gopher tortoises, watching dogs play in the surf and picking up sea glass:
The weather has been so cool and beautiful here the last few days – We’re enjoying it while it lasts …

Sapelo Island
This past weekend, my lab-mate and I drove all the way up to Georgia so we could take transect samples along the Altamaha River. We bunked at the University of Georgia Marine Institute located on Sapelo Island.
The island itself is highly protected – Only a small community of individuals live there permanently, many of whom can trace their lineage back to slaves that were brought to the island during the early 19th century.
There are really no words to convey the beauty of this place, so I will just let the photos speak for themselves:
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park
On Sunday, Jim and I drove up to Fort Lauderdale and explored the trails that wind through the tropical hammocks of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park …
… then we popped over to the beach for a little sand and sun. (How sexy is my windswept hair?)
Such a great way to spend an afternoon!
How was your weekend?

Vintage Sunrise
My most recent embroidery design was inadvertently inspired by vintage, souvenir tshirts from the 70s you would find being sold at the beach or along the boardwalk – Like this one:
My sunrise hoop has a similar feel by using bold graphics and blocks of color.
I added the mini flock of birds as an afterthought and I think it completes the design perfectly!
A truly unique piece – Click here if you are interested!
Now all I want to do is go to the beach … Anyone with me?
