Have you ever used a petrographic microscope? It is the coolest. When you use a regular microscope, the thing that you’re looking at is the same but just bigger. When you look at a gray piece of basalt under a petrographic microscope, it’s all neon pinks and greens and flashes kaleidoscope-like when you turn it. You should find some geology nerds that will let you try it just for fun.
I’ve never even heard of a petrographic microscope! Looks like I need to seek out some rock-and-mineral geeks ;)
